1 arrested after Itzimna home invasion is foiled
Merida, Yucatan — A 63-year-old Itzimna resident was injured in an attempted home invasion Monday. One suspect has been arrested and two others are at large.
Although the suspects carried pistols, no shots were fired in the attack, said police, who angrily denied “irresponsible” media reports suggesting the homeowner fired shots from his own gun.
The assault victim, identified only as Enrique TG, suffered head and wrist injuries when the suspects attempted to tie him up. TG was later discharged from the hospital and filed a complaint at the Public Ministry office.
Enrique was watering his garden at Calle 23A and 25, which straddles Alcala Martin, when the intruders allegedly hopped a wall and approached.
The resident said he was saved by a neighbor who heard him screaming. When he yelled to his neighbor to call police, the suspects fled the scene empty handed in a red Versa.
Police set up road blocks to apprehend the suspects.
