2018 Yucatan Fair at Xmatkuil exceeds 2 million visitors
Merida, Yucatan – Crowds grew on the last day of the state fair Sunday, ending a nearly four-week tradition of rides, shows and games.
The Xmatkuil fair attracted more than 2 million visitors, according to official records. They came from all over the state to fairgrounds in Merida’s south.
April Ferreyro Rosado, a state official in charge of the fair, said the influx of visitors demonstrates the public’s support. Every day, officials provided family-friendly shows and activities.
An exhibition of robotic dinosaurs was particularly popular, as was a circus show. Local and national artists had space to exhibit their talents.
A cattle ranch drew the attention of both children and adults interested in seeing prime bovine, ovine (sheep) and equine specimens.
Rodeos, dog shows, kickboxing, mixed martial art and wrestling shows were also a draw. A highlight near the fair’s conclusion was a mass wedding.
The moments and memories made at the Xmatkuil fair “motivate us to redouble our efforts to offer a fair in 2019 that exceeds the expectations of our visitors,” said Ferreyro Rosado.
