In Yucatan, 26 pregnant women have been infected with coronavirus, according to data from the Federal Health Ministry. None of the cases have been fatal so far.
Yucatan ranks 11th in the country for coronavirus in women who are already pregnant, said the health undersecretary, Hugo López Gatell.
As of June 9, an estimated 207 of such cases are still active across Mexico, he said. Nationally, the virus has killed 24 women.
In five cases, the victim had diabetes; in another five, the patient was obese.
The deaths were registered in 14 entities, among which those with the highest number of deaths were Aguascalientes and Chihuahua, with four cases each.
Of the 791 infected pregnant women in Mexico, 56% were between 25 and 35 years of age; 28% of the victims are between 15 and 25 years. The final 14% are over 36.
In 21 pregnancies, the mother identified herself as indigenous, while three more were migrants from other parts of Latin America. Three contracted the virus in Haiti, Guatemala and Honduras.
In 30% of the positive cases, hospitalization was necessary, with at least 13 requiring respiratory intubation and 24 requiring admission to an ICU.
