Eleven people were sickened, nine of whom died, from drinking bootleg alcohol during a COVID-19 contingency that bans the sale of beer, wine and liquor.
The deaths occurred at Acanceh IMSS Rural Hospital No. 59.
The others were transferred to a state hospital in Merida or to another IMSS regional hospital.
The adulterated alcohol was manufactured by a local man who works as an electrician. He is among those hospitalized in serious condition.
