The Fourth Annual Progreso Home Tour returns Saturday, March 5 with six lovely homes and gardens in Yucatán’s coastal community.

The event also features an on-site raffle and an online silent auction that will offer some beautiful works of art and local experiences.

The tour is returning to an in-person format after the pandemic led organizers to host it virtually in 2021. Face masks will be required, however, and measures are being taken to avoid clusters of people.

Proceeds from the Progreso Home Tour benefit the Progreso Apoyo Program AC, a registered non-profit organization that provides annual scholarships to students, helping them stay in school.

Progreso Apoyo is currently helping 60 students in middle school and high school. Its support has been especially important during the past two years when COVID-19 has severely disrupted schooling. At the beginning of the pandemic, Progreso Apoyo purchased computer tablets and helped students’ families pay for internet service for distance learning.

Tickets for the self-guided tour are 300 pesos and can be purchased Monday, Feb. 28 at the Natural Thangs Markets in Chelem and at the Crocodiles Market on Wednesday, March 2 between 9 a.m. and noon. Or send an email to info@progresohometour.com to request tickets.

To promote social distancing, please specify a preferred start time: 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m., or 10 a.m. Tickets must be ordered by Monday. For individuals coming from Mérida, tickets will be held at the door for pickup. However, no tickets will be sold at the door.

Ticketholders will be given a map and can either drive themselves or take a cab. Special Home Tour taxis will be at your service.

Unable to attend the Home Tour this year? No worries — help by participating in the Online Silent Auction, which opens on Tuesday. Bidding will continue online until the close of the auction at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5. In addition to some beautiful art items which must be picked up in Progreso, there are also gift certificates for several excursions and experiences which can be sent electronically.

The students in the Progreso Apoyo Program receive annual support from sponsors, who contribute funds every year to help their students. Every bit of the sponsor’s funds goes to help students pay for the items they need to stay in school. The Progreso Home Tour and Silent Auction generate the funds the program needs to operate and pay for special projects such as Computers for Progreso. Financial donations are always appreciated and can be made at paypal.me/PAPdonation.
