5 funeral homes temporarily shut down by consumer agency

Profeco, the consumer protection agency, suspended five funeral homes for operating without proper paperwork. The operations were in Merida and Kanasín.

Funeral homes Eirene, Nieves, Garrido, Luz del Cielo and Vázquez did not have permits signed by Profeco, which are necessary to operate legally, the agency said.

Profeco safeguards the rights of consumers when purchasing funeral services and verifies the businesses comply with the law.

Funeral homes are considered essential during the coronavirus pandemic. Seven other funeral homes were verified legal by Profeco.
