Coronavirus fatalities in Yucatan have been in double digits for 14 days

Another 16 coronavirus fatalities and 165 new infections in 24 hours were reported Wednesday by the Yucatan Health Ministry.

While 72% of the 5,580 people who have become sick with COVID-19 in Yucatan have recovered, daily deaths have been mostly in double digits for two weeks.

Of the new cases, 116 were in Mérida; eight in Valladolid; five in Tizimín; four in Kanasín and Umán; three in Progreso and Ticul; two in Izamal, Oxkutzcab, Seyé, Temozón and Yaxkabá, as well as one case each in Abalá , Baca, Chemax, Chichimilá, Chikindzonot, Cuncunul, Hoctún, Homún, Ixil, Kinchil, Maxcanú and Motul.

Of the current cases, 599 are stable and in home quarantine while hospitalizations rose by five to reach 339.

The age of those known to be infected ranges from one month to 97 years.

A 46-year-old Progreso man, already suffering from cancer, was the youngest to die. A 91-year-old Merida woman, who was otherwise healthy, and a 92-year-old Merida man with hypertension, were the oldest. The average age of the deceased was 72.

Since the first death in April, Yucatan has registered 578 fatalities related to COVID-19.
