A 7.2-magnitude quake on Friday caused minor damage to buildings in Oaxaca state, with no reports of fatalities so far.

The epicenter was close to a surfer resort on the Pacific coast and had a depth of 24.5 km/15.3 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Tremors were felt in Mexico City, where tall buildings swayed. The regions are still reeling from earthquakes that caused widespread damage in September.

Interior Minister Alfonso Navarrete said the quake caused some superficial damage to buildings in Oaxaca.

In Mexico City, seismic alarms sounded, with older structures in historic Condesa knocking into each other. People crowded in the streets for safety.

A U.S. traveler in Coyoacan, México City, told her friends on Facebook that she was OK, and described he mood:

“Several things fell off shelves here, and people are just hella freaked,” she said.
