75 new cases in Yucatan as death count passes 200
The coronavirus continued to rage against Yucatan with nine deaths in the last 24 hours and a near-record one-day high of 75 new cases.
That brings to 201 the total deaths in the state since the first fatality April 3, not even two months ago.
Of the latest cases, 42 were found in Mérida, eight in Progreso, five in Temozón and Ticul, three to Kanasín and Umán, two in Chicxulub Pueblo and Tekax, and one in several municipalities including Akil, Chaksinkin, Halachó, Hocabá and Hunucmá.
A 48-year-old Halacho man with a medical history of hypertension and obesity was the youngest to perish; a 77-year-old Temozón man with obesity and COPD was the oldest, and had two contacts with mild symptoms of COVID-19.
Of 1,785 confirmed cases so far, 1,257 people have recovered, or roughly 70%.
Health officials said 191 current patients are at home in quarantine, in stable condition, while 136 are under hospital care, six fewer than Friday.
Only May 21 saw more infections, at 80. Eleven perished that day, another grim record.
