Aeromexico Announces New Caribbean Routes From Mexico City

The airline will operate regular flights from Mexico City International Airport to Montego Bay, Jamaica and Nassau, Bahamas next year. These additions represent a notable expansion of regional connectivity for Mexico’s flag carrier and offer travelers direct access to two major Caribbean destinations that have historically lacked robust, direct flight options from the Mexican mainland.

Flight Schedules and Aircraft Details

The new service to Montego Bay will begin on March 18, 2027, operating Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The return journey offers convenient timing for weekend and short-stay travelers. The outbound flight from Mexico City is about three hours and 40 minutes, while the return trip takes about four hours and five minutes due to prevailing winds.

The second new route to Nassau will begin the following day, March 19, 2027, and will also operate Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The outbound flight from Mexico City takes roughly three hours and 50 minutes, and the return flight to Mexico City runs just over four hours. Both routes will use Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Addressing Historical Connectivity Gaps

This development highlights a broader historical trend in Mexican aviation. For decades, direct commercial airline connectivity between Mexico and the wider Caribbean basin has been remarkably sparse. Aside from regular, well-established routes to Cuba and the Dominican Republic, travelers visiting other islands in the region typically had to book inconvenient multi-stop itineraries.

These alternative journeys used to require long layovers in the United States or Panama, significantly increasing travel time and logistical friction. By establishing these direct paths to Jamaica and the Bahamas, Aeromexico is beginning to bridge a long-standing geographic gap in the airline market.

What About the Yucatán Peninsula?

Looking ahead, launching these routes from Mexico City opens the door to further regional expansion. As demand grows and airlines test the viability of direct Caribbean links, similar routes may soon launch from other key Mexican hubs, particularly airports in the Mexican Caribbean region such as Cancun, Tulum, and Cozumel.

Airports in the Riviera Maya and the Yucatán Peninsula are ideally positioned geographically to serve the wider Caribbean region.

Passengers in the Mexican Caribbean still face similar connectivity hurdles when trying to reach other island nations, despite their relative proximity.
