American Airlines plans to establish its new Caribbean hub at Cancun International Airport and advance its partnership with Interjet to better position itself in Mexico.
José María Giraldo, the CEO of American Airlines in Mexico, said the carrier plans to increase flights out of Cancun and also provide better connections. AA has hubs in Dallas and Philadelphia.
American also plans to strengthen its operations in Los Cabos, as well as the beginning of the flights to Oaxaca from Dec. 19. As a result the AA network will reach 22 destinations in Mexico by the end of 2018.
June 9, 2019, AA will start the Durango-Dallas route, with possible routes from Dallas and Chicago to Cancun as well.
In addition to the network changes, American Airlines also will seek to continue to expand its alliance with domestic low-cost carrier Interjet by expanding its codeshare agreement.
AA also flies regularly between Miami and Merida.
