While infections dropped significantly Friday, the death count was painfully high in Yucatan as health officials announced 27 fatalities, including a 2-month-old baby. Since April, nearly 13,500 have died in the coronavirus pandemic.
On Thursday, a 1-year-old and a child under 5 were among the deceased. In five months, 1,796 in the state have died while battling COVID-19. Fatalities today included 15 men and 12 women, and as old as 82.
New cases totaled 140, or 67 fewer than the day before, and 90 out of roughly 1,000 patients were declared recovered.
Hospitalizations were at 467, a dropped of nearly 7% in 24 hours. A majority of patients, 558 in all, are well enough to stay home while recovering.
New infections included 73 in Mérida, 15 in Valladolid, eight in Ticul and Umán, seven in Tizimín, six in Peto and Tekax, three in Kanasín, two in Chapab and Tixpéhual, two foreigners, and one case in Conkal, Dzan, Dzilam González, Hunucmá, Izamal, Motul, Progreso and Tinum.
Twelve who perished were from Merida, five from Progreso, two from Ticul, one from out of the area and one each in Homún, Hunucmá, Kanasín, Peto, Tekax, Tizimín and Umán.
