Beach Cleanup Success: Eco-Bahía Leads Community Effort
On Thursday, 120 volunteers at Playa Aventuras’ beach cleaned over a mile of coastline, collecting 176 pounds of waste.
The Eco-Bahía Ecological Foundation, through its SAK program, mobilized the community in a joint effort to preserve the Maya Riviera’s coasts and seabeds.
Among the main waste collected were single-use plastics, personal hygiene products, packaging and containers, construction and special materials, and hazardous and biological-infectious waste. This waste not only affects the environment but also raises serious questions about the sustainability of our consumption and waste disposal systems.
“Each volunteer becomes an environmental ambassador, and their contribution is vital for preserving our terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Their effort underlines the importance of responsible consumption and the need for sustainable cities that guarantee an ecological balance and access to clean water,” declared Yuritzi Espino, Manager of the Eco-Bahía Ecological Foundation.
The German International School Riviera Maya, collaborators of Bahia Principe Rivera Maya Resort, Cenotes Urbanos, Zofemat, Tulum Country Club, Campamento Playa Aventuras DIF, Scubaquatic and Nurdle Patrol were praised for their work.
The Eco-Bahía Foundation works to conserve the region’s beaches and promote environmental awareness.
The Eco-Bahia Foundation was born in 1999 from the responsibility, awareness and concern of Bahia Principe and its founder, Pablo Piñero, to protect and conserve natural resources and plan and develop environmental projects.
For more than 20 years, it has promoted the implementation of actions for the conservation, maintenance and improvement of natural resources through its different Programs: conservation of Turtles and Marine Resources; rescue and Control of Fauna; conservation of Native Flora; conservation and Maintenance of Natural Areas; and Environmental Education.
