Two of three boaters who came ashore in Rio Lagartos are in the hospital, suspected of carrying COVID-19.

A Brazilian man, another man from Miami and a woman of Swiss nationality, all in their late 20s or early 30s, were stopped when stocking up on food without protective masks.

The visitors apparently were unaware of the law when questioned by municipal police, the Sipse news agency reported.

The three were transferred, under coronavirus protocols, to the local health center where the diagnosis was made.

The coastal town is being patrolled by city and state police as well as the National Guard to prevent vacationers from arriving.

The origin of the pleasure boat and its passengers is unknown.
