Bolshoi Ballet brings ‘Swan Lake’ to the Peón Contreras

Mérida, Yucatán — On the majestic stage of the Teatro José Peón Contreras, the classic ballet “Swan Lake” will be performed by the Bolshoi Ballet of Belarus on Saturday, Feb. 10 and Sunday, Feb. 11.

The ballet company has been recognized as one of the four best in the world and is under the direction of Yuri Trajan.

The Bolshoi Ballet of Belarus belongs to the Bolshoi National Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Belarus, founded in 1933 and an outstanding symbol of Belarusian art and a center of national culture.

Four performances are planned: 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

An ensemble of 33 dancers will be on stage that will contain a combined two tons of hand-crafted costumes, equipment, backdrops and scenography brought directly from Belarus.

The tour is stopping in 30 cities. A recent performance in Cancun sold out, and the Mérida stop was expanded from three performances to four to meet demand.

The two-hour show represents the “highest level ballet in the world, ” said promotor Alfredo Minor.
