Busy cruise-ship week include newcomer from German line

Progreso, Yucatán — The port begins April with the the arrival of over 11,600 passengers and 3,288 crew, including a cruise ship that’s new to Yucatán.

The Artania has included Progreso on an itinerary that includes numerous U.S. ports and the Bahamas. The ship has been chartered since 2011 by Phoenix Reisen, a German-based travel agency and cruise ship operator. It was originally built in 1984 for Princess Cruises and christened by Princess Diana. It was renovated and updated in 2017.

The ship is part of a flurry of cruise activity that has merchants optimistic about the end of the spring break period.

The first of the week’s ships pulls in Tuesday when the Carnival Triumph brings 3,361 passengers and 1,076 crew. It arrives at 9 a.m. and leaves for its home port in New Orleans at 5 p.m.

Wednesday, the Carnival Fantasy will arrive bringing 2,271 passengers and 970 crew. It will arrive at 8 a.m. from Mobile, Ala., and depart at 4 p.m. en route to Cozumel.

Thursday is the double arrival day: the Artania and the gigantic Carnival Valor.

The Artania, which comes from Trujillo, Honduras, will bring a total of 2,300 passengers and 906 crew members.

It will arrive at 7 a.m. and depart for Galveston, Texas, at 6 p.m.

As for the Valor, its 3,671 passengers and 1,336 crew members arrive at 10 from Cozumel and leave at 6 for Galveston.
