AANY crafts show: Arte a Mano Feria

Fri., November 14, 2014 @ 5:00 pm - Sun., November 16, 2014 @ 7:00 pm

More than 75 artisans will be featured at the Arte A Mano crafts show Friday, Nov. 14-Sunday Nov. 16. The show, organized by AANY, will be held at CANACO’s facilities in Col. García Ginerés.

This year it will be the same weekend as Buen Fin and many of the artists will offer special promotions.

The recently held White City Ball raised funds that enable this show to be held. The AANY A.C. (Amigos de los Artistas/Artesanos Nuevos de Yucatán) exists to elevate and promote the craft arts movement in the Yucatán.

All money raised byaany14 AANY is used to find and nurture artists and to promote their work through the Arte a Mano craft show and also to find year-round venues for their work to be sold. The artists are present at the show, giving attendees the opportunity to have a special connection with the artist who created the piece that they buy. All sales are retained by the artists and for many the sales at Arte a Mano represent a major source of income for the year.

This will be the biggest Arte a Mano show yet with 20 new artists participating. In all, there will be over 75 artists offering a large variety of work in ceramics, fabrics, wood, and other materials. There is something for everyone from decorative pieces for your home to clothing and jewelry.

Attendees from years past mark this date in their calendars as they know the quality and diversity of the crafts is the best that they will find anywhere in the Yucatán. Many do their holiday shopping at the show while others add to their growing collection of AANY crafts.

Of the artists taking part in the show, 20 will be showing their works there for the first time. Among them is Adriana Castrejon, of Mérida, presenting contemporary ceramic planters; Arsenio Manzanero, of Ditzya, a master stone carver who specializes in rustic birdbaths, benches and tables; Carlos Ordaz Solis, of Valladolid, who makes sculptural orchid arrangements; and Martin Francisco Pech Ancona, of Izamal, who creates whimsical birds and animals of coconut shells.

Most vendors accept Visa and Mastercard.

AANY A.C., which recently held a fundraiser gala at Villa Verde, is a Mexican non-profit that supports local artisans. All profits are retained by the artists.

There is a parking lot on Calle 31 and there is street parking. Valet parking for a fee will be available.
