Addressing the issue of plastic waste’s adverse effects on the environment, Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre will come to Mérida to premier the original dance theater piece “Death by Plastica.”
White Dog Productions and ACDT will perform their new creation as part of the contemporary Festival of Dance. Collaborating on this piece are choreographers Susan Collard and Nelson Reyes, designers Giles Collard and Eduardo Sosa, with original music by composer Derick Dominy. The piece is performed by ACDT Dancers with Mexican guest artists.
Susan and Giles Collard, directors of the project and ACDT, have been part of Mérida’s expat community for 12 years and also have created many artistic collaborations between their two cities.
The evening will be full of surprises encouraging audience interaction with humor and drama. ACDT is known for its innovative dance art. The show is appropriate for all ages.
Giles Collard will also teach a GaGa-inspired creative movement dance class for all levels at the Bellas Arts School of the Yucatán from 11 a.m to noon on Saturday, Dec. 9.
The Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre is a nonprofit professional dance company created in 1979. It is western North Carolina’s first professional modern dance company.
