The name of La Cúpula’s first Entretanto of the season translates to “Place, Matter and Membership,” a reference to the new book by architect Salvador Reyes Ríos, who will speak on the subject.
Entretanto is a space for free presentations and interviews with creatives coordinated by Genoveva De La Peña
Born in Mexico City in 1967, since 1996 Reyes Ríos has lived and worked in Yucatán, where he adapted six former henequen haciendas for Grupo Plan.
In 2000 he founded the design studio Reyes-Ríos + Larraín in Mérida with the artist Josefina Larraín Lagos. The firm has been equally dedicated to the intervention of old haciendas and mansions to adapt them as hotels or high-design homes, as well as to the design and construction of contemporary houses and buildings based on modern adaptation of local materials and techniques. The set of his work is recognized outside the country as part of the new identity of Yucatecan and Mexican architecture.
In 2013, Casa Sisal and Hacienda Bacoc were included in The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture, the world’s most important digital document that records contemporary architecture. As an individual, he has been distinguished with the academic merit medals awarded by the Autonomous Metropolitan University and the National Polytechnic Institute.
In 1988 Reyes won the National Architectural Composition Award “Alberto J. Pani” for the National Autonomous University of Mexico and in 1991, the National Architecture Scholarship for Young Creators of the Government of Mexico. In 2016, he obtained the diploma of a distinguished graduate from UAM for his contribution to design in Mexico.
Arquine is publishing two editions of the book Reyes Ríos + Larraín Arquitectos: Lugar, materia y pertenencia, the first monographic record on the work of Josefina Larraín and Salvador Reyes.
