Field Trip to Maní – Organic Agriculture School and Melipona Bee Project

A MEL excursion to Maní, which is a little more than an hour south of Mérida, to visit the U Yits Ka’an Ecological Agriculture School to learn about melipona beekeeping and other projects.
One of the guides will be Aliza Mizrahi, a leader within Slow Food Yucatán, who is familiar to many who buy her farm produce at the Saturday market.
Producers of bee products and medicinal herbs, along with some of the artisans who have made the embroidered blouses and textiles of Maní well-known, will offer items for sale.
Lunch follows at El Príncipe Tutul-xiu, a local restaurant that is renowned for its poc chuc.
Time permitting, the group will visit the grounds of the convent of San Miguel Arcángel de Maní, where Fray Diego de Landa burned the Maya codices.
Bus will leave the Slow Food Market parking lot (Centro Comercial Colon – Avenida Reforma /Calle 72 with Avenida Colon) at 8 a.m., returning around 4 or 4:30 p.m.
Cost: 400 pesos, not including lunch.
