“Óxido + Nostalgia” (“Rust + Nostalgia”) opens with a reception for the artists at 7:30 Tuesday, Feb. 5 at La Cupula. The artists, José Hernández Luna and Alejandro Sanccini, are both graduates of the Escuela Superior de Artes de Yucatán.
The invitation promises “trompe l’oeil sculptures and sculptural lighting.”
Hernández was selected for the Visual Arts Contest South Zone FORCAZ (2018) and for the cultural meeting ISSSTE CULTURA INTERFAZ “Emerging Visual Artists” (2015). He was creditor of the “Municipal Fund for the Visual Arts” (2017) and scholarship recipient of the IBECEY Excellence in Art (2010-2014).
His work is mainly sculpture and installation. Hernandez Luna exhibited in the Pasaje de la Revolución last year.
Sanccini was mentored by Mónica Castillo (Mexico), Jean Charles Pigeau (France), Gerda Gruber (Germany), Edgardo Ganado Kim (Mexico), Ralph Walter (Germany), Saúl Villa (Mexico), Bea Schlingelhoff (Germany) and Juana Alicia Montoya (U.S.), among others.
Since 2006 he has been teaching visual arts courses in private schools. He has collaborated with film producers in art direction for The Discovery Channel and the federal government. His return to mural painting was marked by commissions at the Chablé Resort in Chocholá, Yucatán and Chablé Maroma in Quintana Roo.).
