Movie night at Il Caffé, a charming Italian restaurant on a pedestrian road behind the Peón Contreras theater. Have dinner on your own at 6 to enjoy a free movie, aimed at English-speaking audiences, at 7.
Tuesday night brings a masterful performance by Jack Black in the largely overlooked indie “Bernie” (2011), with Oscar winners Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey. Black plays Bernie Tiede, an affable mortician in Carthage Texas (pop. 7,000), who is beloved by most of the residents (especially the older ladies) for his rousing eulogies. Along the way, he befriends mean-spirited widow Marjorie Nugent (MacLaine) and they begin taking expensive vacations together. Only her stockbroker and the local DA Danny Buck (McConaughey) disapprove of their relationship. Based on a newspaper article in the Texas Monthly, and told through interviews and flashbacks.
