There are perhaps 500 people of German extraction living in Yucatán. But thousands of people will celebrate all things Germany on this particular weekend.
The German community in Mérida will be celebrated with the 15th edition of OktoberFest Mérida. Note the new location, the Rogers Hall sports complex.
The event is 100 percent family-oriented, including several aspects of German culture: dancing, gastronomy — and, of course, beer. Exhibitors who will offer various kinds of German sausages, pork and beef dishes, traditional German pretzels, black forest cake and beer.
Oktoberfest runs Friday, Oct. 20 from 6 p,m. to midnight, Saturday, Oct. 21 from noon to midnight and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.
Tickets are 60 pesos in advance, 70 pesos at the door; children under 15 are free. Buy tickets at www.ticket2go.mx or at La Bierhaus Centro and Col. México, Instituto Kresse at its Montejo and Los Pinos locations, and the Schirp Delicatessen in García Ginerés.
