Great examples of peninsular art are presented at the collective exhibition “Oye como hablo,” at the Lux Perpetua gallery.
Interviewed by Punto Medio, Malena Peón, Jaime Barrera, Alonso Gutiérrez, Alejandro Farías, Miguel Ángel Cimé and Carlos Núñez shared their experience of joining their work in an exhibition that will include 30 to 40 works, including paintings and sculptures.
Barrera said that Yucatán has artists with vast experience, are added to the young group with a lot of talent as Núñez, Rodolfo Baeza and Ernesto Novelo.
Malena Peón commented that she will present work which recently was part of the Florence Biennale.
When questioned about the challenges facing Yucatecan artists, Alejandro Farías replied about the need to educate the public.
“In Mérida there are many people with purchasing power who value art. (But) they buy any trinkets in department stores or on the street,” he said.
The exhibition opens 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3 and remains until mid-September. Other artists involved are Víctor Argáez, Jaime Barrera, Pilar Cámara, Colleen Casey, Marcela Díaz, Pascale Fournier, Ariel Guzmán and Stephanie Schikora.
