Merida, Yucatan — Campeche’s right-hander Francisco Campos won his 199th victory in the Mexican Baseball League, pitching in good form for six innings to guide the Piratas’ 6-3 success over the Yucatan Leones in a riveting game Saturday at Parque Kukulcán Alamo.

Campeche took the lead in the first inning when it crossed the plate for three runs, including a single by Fernando Perez that scored Jay Austin.

The Leones cut into the deficit in the second inning when Walter Ibarra hit an RBI single, driving in Leo Heras.

The Piratas later added a run in the third and two in the fifth. In the third, Henry Alejandro Rodriguez hit an RBI single, while Perez hit an RBI triple and then scored on a single by Rodriguez in the fifth.

Heras singled three times, scoring two runs for the Leones.

The decisive battle of the Peninsular Classic will be this today (Sunday) at 5:45 pm. Tickets range from 25 to 250 pesos with children under 1.2 meters tall admitted for free.

Manuel Flores (3-2, 6.19 ERA) will pitch for the buccaneers, while for the Leones, the sensational Cesar Valdez (8-0, 2.83 ERA) will seek to extend his undefeated pace.
