Merida, Yucatan — Companies statewide in the tourism industry have access to a credit, with a $140 million peso fund announced by the Program for Economic Development and Employment Promotion.

The president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (CANACO SERVYTUR) of Mérida, José Manuel López Campos, stressed that tourism is a key industry for the region’s economy. The fund is intended to give tourism companies better odds to survive the ups and downs of the industry.

López Campos highlighted the interest of the state government to bring resources to companies in this sector, even for the smallest and from all corners.

He recognized that some businesses often do not develop because one of the main obstacles they have to overcome to grow is access to financing.

This program promises them the opportunity to access credit on better terms with fewer requirements, with lower rates and the granting of guarantees by NAFINSA, that assumes its rightful role as a development bank, he said.
