Cesar Valdez leads Leones to 9th consecutive win
Merida, Yucatan — Allowing the Leones’ ninth win in a row, Cesar Valdez allowed just five hits over seven innings for a 5-2 victory over the Tigres de Quintana Roo.
Valdez (14-1) allowed two runs Friday while striking out eight and walking one to get the win at Kukulcan Alamo Park.
Quintana Roo started the scoring in the second inning when Francisco Cordoba hit a solo home run.
Yucatan answered in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs to take the lead for good. Walter Ibarra hit a two-run single and then scored on a single by Jonathan Jones en route to the two-run lead.
The Leones added to their lead in the sixth when Jose Aguilar hit a two-run home run.
Yucatan will seek to secure the series today (Saturday) at 5:45 p.m., with Tigre starter Wilfredo Boscan (6-3, 4.32 ERA) facing the Leones’ Yoanner Negrín (11-3, 2.85 ERA).
