Colorful paper balloons to light the skies
Colorful paper balloons will reach the sky in a festival that will bring together craftsmen from around Mexico and Brazil.
“Lights in the Sky” will also include family-friendly cultural events and workshops Aug. 5-7 in Tahmek, 20 kilometers southwest of Izamal.
The festive balloons and paper lanterns are all handmade and biodegradable. They range in size, and don’t carry people. In the air, they eventually catch fire and return to the earth. It’s an amazing sight.
Organizers urge people not to buy Chinese lanterns and Chinese balloons, which are made of synthetic materials.
Transportation is available from Mejorada, Mérida.
