Mérida, Yucatán — For 20 municipal police officers, summer means continuing to improve their English-language skills.
The 26 hours at what they’re calling the London House Academy constitutes the second stage of “Basic English for Attendance to Tourists,” which began Tuesday and continues into August.
Mérida is a tourist destination for foreigners who come to see the Historic Center but don’t necessarily know much Spanish, the Director of the Municipal Police, Cmdte. Mario Arturo Romero Escalante, reminded the class on its first day.
That is why, he added, it is important to be prepared to understand and speak some English.
