Days of hot but tranquil weather will yield this afternoon to squalls and hail in parts of Yucatán, Meteorologist Juan Antonio Palma said.

Cold Front 51 will bring precipitation to the center, south and southwest of the state. Thunderstorms could be at times intense, he said.

Afternoon rain will continue through Tuesday and all day Wednesday. By then, temperatures will be down to 30 C / 84 F, according to forecasters.

But for now, the heat will continue. An anticyclonic circulation in the middle levels of the atmosphere will maintain the prevailing heat wave over the Yucatan Peninsula, with maximum temperatures into the triple digits.
