Coronavirus cases, deaths continue slow decline in Yucatan

Continuing an overall decline, Yucatan health officials on Friday announced 102 new coronavirus infections and 18 deaths in the past 24 hours. The numbers are roughly half the daily totals reported a month ago.

Yucatan health officials are caring for 969 patients, with 377 ill enough to require hospitalization, 13 fewer than the day before.

Since the coronavirus pandemic reached Yucatan, 14,475 people have been found to be infected and 79% of them recovered. Deaths have reached 1,947.

New infections included 55 in Mérida, seven in Ticul, six in Valladolid, five in Tizimín, three in Motul, Temozón and Tzucacab, two in Espita, Hunucmá and Peto, one in Abalá, Baca, Celestún, Conkal, Dzidzantún, Dzitás, Izamal, Kanasín, Oxkutzcab, Sacalum, Samahil, Tekax and Umán and one from out of state.

Fatalities included 14 men and 4 women ranging in age from 26 to 84. Twelve were from Merida and one was from abroad. Others came from Dzidzantún, Espita, Kaua, Muna and Ticul.
