Coronavirus infections and deaths rose again in Tuesday’s discouraging daily briefing by Yucatan health officials.

Another 211 cases in the past 24 hours brought Yucatan’s official number of infections to 12,033 since the crisis began in March. Of those, nearly 80% of all patients have recovered, including 42 more on Tuesday.

Deaths inched up by 34 — 19 men and 15 women — bringing to 1,496 the number of coronavirus patients in Yucatan who have lost their lives since April. The deceased ranged in age between 30 and 87 and two were listed as “foreigners.”

Hospitalizations increased a second day straight, this time by eight.

New infections included 132 in Mérida, 14 in Ticul, seven in Kanasín, six in Tekax and Valladolid; five in Progreso and Umán; four in Peto; three in Celestún and Santa Elena; two in Acanceh, Tekom, Tinum and Tizimín; and one in Baca, Chicxulub Pueblo, Chumayel, Conkal, Dzitás, Hoctún, Izamal, Mama, Motul, Muna, Oxkutzcab, Río Lagartos, Sacalum, Tahmek, Temozón, Tepakán and Tzucacab.

Current patients include 438 in stable condition and staying home while the other 523 remain hospitalized in total isolation.
