Updated with more statistics: A new record high number of daily infections wasn’t enough to put Yucatan back into lockdown.
Yucatan recorded 249 more coronavirus cases and 35 deaths in the last 24 hours, a health department briefing revealed.
But data used to decide if Yucatan continues at the “orange light” of the economic-recovery program was sufficient to keep the state at the second-highest level of alert.
Hospital-bed occupancy was up only slightly and hospital admissions were down nearly 7% in the last week. The rate of contagion and of positive tests did not change dramatically.

- The increase in hospital admissions compared to the previous week: down 6.8%

- The rate of coronavirus tests that come out positive is up 1 point at 48%
As of Thursday, 8,062 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Yucatan and 917 have died.
On Thursdays, fatalities included 26 men and nine women ranging in age from 3 to 86.
Twenty who perished resided in Merida and three were listed as foreigners. Two each were in Valladolid and Progreso while one each were in Chemax, Conkal, Halachó, Kanasín, Muna, Tekit, Tekom and Tinum.
Despite the huge number of new cases, just four patients were hospitalized. Current patients include 340 under home quarantine and 455 in one of Merida’s hospitals, not counting the admissions with pending COVID diagnoses.
Nationally
Mexico reported a record 8,438 new confirmed cases and 718 additional fatalities in the last 24 hours, bringing the official total to 370,712 cases and 41,908 total deaths.
