Decline in coronavirus cases turns into an uptick

The week ended with three consecutive days of increasing coronavirus cases while infections and daily deaths continued an overall decline.

Yucatan health officials on Saturday announced 148 new infections and seven fatalities in 24 hours. Daily new infections had dipped as low as 64 on Monday but rose to 100 by Friday. The last seven days, daily deaths and new infections averaged eight and 110 respectively. Last week, 12 deaths and 129 infections were the average; the week before that, there was an average of 18.6 deaths and 144 infections.

New cases included 79 in Merida, 17 in Progreso, 11 in Tizimín, 10 in Valladolid, six in Umán, four in Tekax, three in Peto and Ticul; two in Chemax, Kanasín and Temozón; and one each in Chikindzonot, Dzilam González, Dzitás, Espita, Motul, Panabá, Teabo, Tecoh and Tinum.

The youngest to perish was a 41-year-old woman from Dzilam González. The oldest was a woman, 72, from Dzitás.

Of current patients battling coronavirus, 844 are stable and at home while 226 are in the hospital, 15 fewer than the day before.
