Waldo's opened today at noon at Calle 21 in Buenavista, Merida.Merida, Yucatan — Branching into Merida, a discount chain based in Tijuana opened its 300th store yesterday.

The new branch of Waldo’s, on the Paseo de Montejo’s extension, in the Buenavista neighborhood, will be followed by two more in the Centro today and, before the end of the year in Progreso and Vallodolid. This expansion promises 100 new jobs in the region.

Waldo’s is a variety store with most goods priced under $20Mx.

The company was started in 1997 in Illinois, United States, and moved its headquarters to Tijuana in 2000. Its reach extends as far as Guangyhou, China.

Fabric store Parisina formerly operated on the corner where Waldos’s debuted yesterday. Centro locations will be on Calle 58 between 63 and 65, and on 63 between 54 and 56.
