Encore performance of lightning and hail possible this weekend

Mérida, Yucatán — Rainy weather and high winds won’t be taking the weekend off, Conagua reports.

Although periods of sun are predicted, a trough over the Yucatán Peninsula and humidity associated with a low front that extends from the eastern United States and to the center of Veracruz will generate an increase in clouds with potential for strong storms.

Tuesday and Thursday also saw strong storms, with damaging gusts, lightning and hail. Blackouts and fallen trees were reported throughout Yucatán. A repeat of that performance is possible Saturday, Conagua warns.

Wind from southeast to northeast may include gusts of up to 50 kilometers per hour/31 miles per hour.

On Sunday, expect partly cloudy skies and rain with intervals of showers in the east and south of Yucatán.
