Mérida, Yucatán — In the last 32 months, about 4,000 new companies have been created in the state. that’s 125 every month, or four a day, on average.

And according to data released by the state government, during that time there have been more than 30,000 new jobs registered to authorities. The annual growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is three percent for the last five years.

“In Yucatan we will continue betting on new technologies as a driver of productivity,” said Gov. Rolando Zapata Bello, in remarks translated into English. “We continue to strengthen a more extensive global interconnection, attracting foreign direct investment, more infrastructure and better marketing channels.”

The government is making an effort get employers to register their businesses with the Social Security office. In close collaboration with the Mexican Social Security Institute, the Tax Administration and the National Institute of Housing Development Workers (Infonavit) the state has launched empleoformal.yucatan. gob.mx to explain the benefits of signing up.
