First ‘norte’ of the season this weekend

The north coast of the Yucatán Peninsula will be hit with the first norte of the 2016-2017 season, with gusts up to 50 kph, and temperatures dipping occasionally to 17C/63F.

The weather bureau predicts coastal winds from the north-northeast of 15-20 kph and gusts up to 40 kph on Friday, and up to 50 on Saturday and Sunday. 

While early-morning sweater weather is predicted this weekend in Yucatán, daytime highs may reach 34C/93F.

Today a trough extending northwest of Guatemala to the west of Yucatán is expected to bring showers over eastern and central Yucatán.

Ports in Progreso will close tonight or Friday morning, and fishing activity will be suspended.
