Fisherman lost at sea following powerful storm

Progreso — One fisherman is still missing after Sunday’s massive storm whipped up the Gulf of Mexico and the Peninsula.

The norte surprised dozens of boats on the high seas. Four of five fishermen from the wrecked Pescamex 34 were found late Sunday and on Monday.

A fleet made up of the Blue Fin, Tiburón 22, María del Mar 2, María del Mar 3, Ligia María, the Guanajuato, the Veracruz, and a Mexican Navy Interceptor aircraft searched for the crew of the Pescamex 34.

This wrecked vessel was packed with 14 fishermen catching grouper. It was about to conclude its long trip and return to Yucalpetén.

Sunday, dawned with clear and sunny skies, but at noon, hurricane-force winds and high swells began.

The search for the final fisherman, Blas Martínez Vermont, resumes today.
