Mérida, Yucatán — Suitcases and whatever was packed in them, left unclaimed nearly three years at the Mérida International Airport, have been donated to a charity.

The charity, CRIT’s Teletón Foundation, supports children and adolescents with disabilities, cancer and autism.

The abandoned luggage was delivered by the Regional Airport Management Group ASUR under the charge of Héctor Navarrete Muñoz, with the Mérida Airport administration leader Oscar Carrillo Maldonado.

None of the parties disclosed the contents of the luggage.

The forgotten goods are among the donations that local Child Rehabilitation Telethon rehab facility receives from different companies or institutions, and that it sells at its campus bazaar weekdays from 9 a.m to 2 p.m.

Money raised from sales goes toward prostheses, orthotic braces or surgeries for their young patients.

The center is part of a nationwide network comprising the world’s largest private child rehabilitation system, with a capacity to serve more than 70,000 patients. They host a national 24-hour telethon in Mexico City every year.
