Fried-chicken franchise from Cajun country opens in Merida

Merida, Yucatan — A fried-chicken franchise from Louisiana has opened in town.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken’s latest location, its 10th in Mexico, is inside a Go Mart convenience store in Merida. They serve several gas station marts, including one that’s a block from rival KFC.

The franchise already has spots in Hermosillo and Miguel Aleman, as well as Cancun, which opened nearly a year ago when the company began its expansion into Mexico.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken, which touts Cajun flavors, said it will continue expanding in “all areas that it can.”

“We are very excited to open another Krispy Krunchy Chicken location in Mexico as part of our growing family and continuing to be a part of their family, too,” said Rocio Cabrera, director of international operations for Krispy Krunchy Chicken. “2019 has been a fantastic year opening in new cities and welcoming new customers to enjoy our unique flavor and menu items. Our international locations have performed very well, and we believe this location will be just as successful.”

Krispy Krunchy Chicken’s menu features its flagship fried chicken, fried seafood, honey butter biscuits and various sides, as well as newer items, such as boneless wings, Crispitos and State Fair Corn Dogs.

Another Merida location is planned this year, Cabrera said.

Lafayette, La.-based Krispy Krunchy Chicken has more than 2,500 locations in 46 U.S. states, American Samoa and Mexico. Last year, Krispy Krunchy added 476 locations. The company was founded in 1989.
