Mérida, Yucatán — It’s not just old haciendas that are inhabited by ghosts.

Since opening in 2012, the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya has been the source of talk about “strange” situations that occur there, reports Milenio’s Jorge Moreno, who tracks paranormal activity in Yucatán.

“The first time I visited this site, two guards told me that they had witnessed various atypical demonstrations, such as thundering noises or silhouettes that approach them and then disappear,” Moreno writes in Mileneo, which regularly covers UFOs and ghosts under an Enigmas de Yucatán banner.

“On another occasion, after a conference, a tourist approached me to show me a photo which was taken at the museum,” he continues, in Spanish.

The tourist said that when she saw the photo she noticed nothing strange until days later. But now a female apparition is clearly haunting the background. The photo has been analyzed professionally for evidence of tampering, he said.

Moreno is the author of seven books on the topics of paranormal activity.
