“We are about to tender a pipeline that will connect Tuxpan to Merida and then Cancun to supply gas and generate electricity,” Obrador said Wednesday. The infrastructure is aimed at preventing blackouts in the highly touristic Yucatan Peninsula, as well as “help to develop the southeast.”
The pipeline will carry gas from the eastern port of Tuxpan, but further details weren’t disclosed.
In August, the government said it had renegotiated several “multi-million-dollar” pipeline contracts, which would translate into savings of $4.5 billion thanks to a tariff reduction in the transportation of gas.
