Two months after the launch of the “Hecho en Yucatan” online store, Mercado Libre has completed more than 250 transactions around the country.

The online store is sending Yucatecan foods, fashions and crafts all around Mexico. Local suppliers are big and small. Dondé brand crackers and cookies, guayaberas, bags and footwear are available at the click of a button. But sauces and condiments to prepare typical Yucatecan dishes are the most popular items in the virtual store.

Biodegradable, organic handbags and personal care products, such as soaps, body oils and natural rehydrating creams, have also sold well.

Mercado Libre offers online shopping to 174 million customers in Latin America.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Labor (Sefoet), which created the online store, “Hecho en Yucatan” (“Made in Yucatan”) has made 116,000 pesos / US$6,000 in wholesale and retail sales since May 24.

In the same period, Mercado Libre has added 70 local companies, allowing the store to expand the catalog of Yucatan-made products to 282 items.

Local businesses are welcome to contact Sefoet to get their products to market.
