Hundreds launch Saturday-night Biciruta
The first night-time version of the city Biciruta was a big success.
The west side of the Paseo de Montejo was shut down last evening to allow hundreds of bike-riders, looking for the best leg workout around, to pedal toward the Monumento a la Bandera after sundown. Stages were set up for singer, dancers and bands along the three-kilometer, or 1.9-mile-long route.
Biciruta Nocturna program will take place 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. the first Saturday of each month, in addition to the normal weekly Sunday Biciruta.
The city’s biciruta/bici-ruta/bici ruta program has grown steadily for 10 years, creating a lively and festive atmosphere on the famed boulevard. The program was designed to encourage fitness and physical activity and is coordinated by local hotel and tourism trade associations, and the chamber of commerce.
