The Leones roared back after a Game Two loss with a win against Los Tigres de Quintana Roo to remain in first place in the Copa Maya series. An early 3-0 lead was extended in the bottom of the fifth by Luis “Pepón” Juárez, who hit the first grand slam of the preseason for the Leones.

With Saturday’s victory, the Leones not only move to first in the Mayan Cup series but first in the Southeast league with a 9-4 record thanks to not only their pitching rotation but also their offensive weapons in batters like El Pepón, who are threats at the plate for opponent pitchers.

In a preseason led by the Leones’ dominating defense, this looks to be a return to form for the repeating division champions of the 2018-2019 seasons. With a deep lineup from the mound, which includes former major leaguers to top international and domestic talent, the Leones look to repeat their League Championship 2018 season.

Luis “Pepón” Juárez hit a grand slam against Los Tigres in Game 3 of the Copa Maya Series.

Sunday is the final day of the Copa Maya series. The competition for third place will be 1 p.m. between the Olmecas de Tabasco (4) and Piratas de Campeche (3). The battle for first place will be a rematch to the other night’s loss to the Olmecas De Tobasco (2) and Leones de Yucatán (1) at 7:30 p.m.
