Art Charles helped lift Yucatan to victory against Saltillo on Thursday.

Merida, Yucatan — The Leones de Yucatan counted on timely batting and airtight pitching to beat the Saraperos de Saltillo 3-2, and take the series on Thursday at Parque Kukulcan Alamo.

Art Charles hit a run-scoring single in the sixth inning, driving in Alex Liddi who’s doubled scored Jonathan Jones followed by Liddi taking third base on a wild pitch.

In the top of the second, Saltillo scored on a home run by Jorge Vazquez, his 15th of the season. Later in the inning, Jose Manuel Orozco hit a sacrifice fly to give the Saraperos a 2-0 lead. Yucatan answered in the fifth inning when Leo Heras, who reached base three times in the win, scored on a wild pitch.

Yucatan right-hander Jesse Estrada (6-1) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on just three hits over six innings. Josh Lueke picked up a save, his 12th of the season. Opposing starter Raul Carrillo (7-6) took the loss after giving up three runs and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings.

“It’s a triumph for everyone, it was a good game where everyone collaborated. We are happy to see that the fans continue to support us and we invite them to do so,” said Liddi.
