Eleven more COVID-19 deaths were announced Friday, including that of a 26-year-old Maxcanú man, the youngest patient so far in Yucatan to lose his life.

The day’s fatal tally matches the record high set Thursday as well as the Thursday before.

A Chemax woman, 27, who died May 14, was previously the youngest victim to perish. A 33-year-old man from Sanahcatm on May 12, and a 29-year-old woman from Muna, on May 14, are two more of Yucatan’s youngest fatalities.

The Maxcanú man’s case was complicated by obesity and diabetes, health officials said.

A 79-year-old man from Chicxulub Pueblo was Friday’s oldest patient to die. He also suffered from obesity.

In the last 24 hours, 35 new cases were discovered, including 22 in Merida. In Ticul there were three new infections, two in Tecoh and Umán, in addition to one in Acanceh, Hunucmá, Maxcanú, Oxkutzcab, Temozón and Valladolid.

A cumulative 1,710 confirmed coronavirus cases have been counted in Yucatan since March. Of those, 1,196 people have recovered, or almost 70%.

Today’s count brings to 192 the number of deaths from coronavirus in Yucatan.

Likewise, 180 people with coronaviruses are in stable condition and quarantined at home. Another 142 are under hospital care, seven fewer than Thursday. It is unknown how many are on a ventilator.
