Mérida architect presents his book at library meet-and-greet
In the new book Architecture: Weakness and Strength, Mérida architect Francisco Javier Sánchez Román describes the problems and prescribes some solutions for anyone building a home from scratch in Yucatán.
The author will discuss his book at a Mérida English Library meet-and-greet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. This event is free and open to anyone seeking to learn more about the building process, particularly in Yucatán.
Sánchez Román, who owns and operates Montea Arquitectos, has a firm philosophy regarding his trade. His book’s subtitle, “Perfection is the enemy of creativity,” sums up his key messages to readers, including young architects and builders.
“No one knows everything or dominates everything,” Sánchez Román explains in his book. “On the other hand, nobody can guarantee perfection in a work. And yet we must as architects make decisions, bet on ourselves, and take risks because the worst we can do is to stay on the sidelines, doing nothing, not participating in the adventure of doing or wanting to do architecture.”
The author sees the architect as responsible for three pillars of any project: design, budget, and construction.
“I consider them the basics since the absence of any of them nullifies the very meaning of architecture,” Sánchez Román states.
His architecture firm, Montea, was voted among the top three architecture firms in Mérida in Yucatán Magazine’s reader survey in Issue 14.
Attendees will come away with a better understanding of the construction process in Mexico, he says.
When working with clients, Sánchez Román weighs an intangible element: Enthusiasm.
“The architect is responsible for maintaining enthusiasm throughout the construction process. The moment the client loses his enthusiasm, everything is lost, mainly the architect’s trust. There is no one else to blame,” he states on his home page.
Architecture: Weakness and Strength is available on Amazon for US$19.99.
