Aeromar has added cheap flights connecting Mérida with two other cities also overlooked by major airlines: Chetumal, and Cozumel.
The budget airline, based in Mexico, currently flies throughout Mexico as well as Guatemala, Honduras, and two border towns in Texas. From MID, Aeromar also flies to Havana, Cuba.
The Mérida-Cozumel route started Sunday with four flights per week. This links Yucatán’s historic capital with some of the world’s most sought-after scuba diving sites.
The Mérida-Chetumal route began Monday, taking off six times a week. Many office workers with homes in Mérida actually work in Chetumal, near the Belize border.
For either destination, one-way flights are under 800 pesos — 40 bucks.
